Major K writes about the Iraqi practice of Celebration Fire, the practice of celebrating things (such as an Iraqi victory over Syria in soccer) by shooting guns in the air. It ain’t something new around where I live.
It’s not as bad as it used to be as the neighborhood gentrifies, but a few years ago you could hear gunfire almost every night around my house, usually celebration fire of some sort. In fact the guy who we bought our house from was particularly fond of going out in the back yard and shooting his gun in the air to show what a good time he was having. And as Major K says, what goes up must come down. After our predecessor moved out, the guy behind us had to replace his roof and found five bullet holes where celebration shots had come straight down.
