If at first you don’t succeed…

Try, try again (just don’t tell anybody). So President Bush’s attempts last year to end Social Security didn’t go anywhere. Nobody was fooled by the smoke screen and even the “never say you’re wrong” Bush administration finally had to give up.

Or did they? Allan Sloan writes in Bush’s Social Security Sleight of Hand about something he noticed in the President’s proposed budget. Private accounts are still on, starting in 2010, and the total cost to save all this money is $716 billion.
