The end of the Bad Old Days in Old East Dallas

While digging around for a follow up to my post from a few days ago about the proposed Junius Heights historic district I came across Old East Dallas 1975 at Douglas Newby’s site. He is a real estate agent whose signs I see around my house. The article is the story of how Old East Dallas (of which Junius Height is a part) was kept from going completely off the deep end back in the 1970s. If you think Junius Heights is a bad neighborhood now you should have seen the whole Old East Dallas area back in the 70s. Junius Heights is the last part of the area to get historic district status (assuming it does). That makes sense because the other areas are all composed of big two-story houses and JH is mostly small bungalows.
